A Correspondent, Habiganj :
An influential quarter is fuelling conspiracy to relocate a century old school in Habiganj afresh causing much resentment among the local people.
In January 2015, the quarter first moved to relocate the Sreematpur Government Primary School in Nabiganj Upazila of the district when a government project was approved to construct a new building on the existing school campus.
But locals and founders took stance against the relocation ultimately foiling the conspiracy.
In this backdrop, Assistant Upazila Education Officer Saima Sultana convened a meeting with locals on March 2018 and suggested to form a managing committee for the school.
The managing committee was constituted on November 4, headed by Shamim Chowdhury, one of the school’s land donors.
The PWD Engineers surveyed the land several times in the last one year before constructing a new school building.
After finalising the survey, the engineers said that the new school building would require a total of 12 decimal of lands.
Accordingly, two more decimals of land was donated by one Selim Chowdhury and the land got registered with the school.
Later, the concerned department approved a project of three stories new school building and engaged a firm in this year to construct a new academic building. The firm by this time started the preliminary work to construct the building.
Despite the fact, the same influential quarter once again launched a new campaign to relocate the school. They have already held meetings with highly regarded local people and also local administration to make their fresh attempt successful, alleged locals.
“It is a century old school. We do want to relocate it. Locals will foil the conspiracy,” said Shamim Chowdhury.
