Conjoined twin sisters-Tofa and Tahura – of Gaibandha were separated through a surgery by doctors at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Tuesday.
A 16-member team of specialist doctors, led by assistant professor Dr Shahnur Islam of Pediatric Surgery Department, started the surgery around 8 am.Emerging from the operation theater, Prof Dr Kanij Hasina Sheuli of Pediatric Surgery Department told reporters at 2:35 pm that the conjoined babies have been separated through a surgery and it was still on.
“Already 90 percent of the surgery has been done and the rest will be completed soon,” he said.
Tofa and Tahura, 10-month-old babies of Shahida and Raju Mia, were admitted to the hospital under the special care of Dr Shahnur Islam.
They were connected from back to low which is known as ‘Pygopagus’ in medical term.
