Another black fungus case identified in Ctg

Another patient infected with the deadly black fungus has been identified in Chattogram .
The 35-year old woman diagnosed with Mucormycosis (black fungus) on Saturday.
“The patient was diagnosed with the disease even though she had not tested positive for Covid-19. She is being treated under the medicine department. She also suffers from diabetes,” said Dr Sujat Pal, head of Medicine at the Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
The last reported case of black fungus was back in August. So far, three cases have been detected in Chattogram. The first patient to be diagnosed with it has recovered and been discharged from the hospital.
Mucormycosis has a fatality rate of 54%. It affects the sinuses, the brain, and the lungs, and it can be fatal in diabetics or people who are seriously immune-compromised, such as cancer, HIV-Aids or Covid-19 patients.
The disease made headlines back in May, with more than 10,000 reported cases from India.
