Afsana Khanam, the widow of pilot Abid Sultan killed in US-Bangla plane crash in Nepal on March 12, is on life support, said Prof Badrul Alam, a Joint Director of the National Institute of Neuroscience and Hospital in Dhaka on Tuesday.
On Sunday, Afsana was hospitalised after suffering a stroke and underwent a surgery. A seven-member medical team led by Director of the hospital Professor Quazi Deen Muhammad has been formed for her treatment.
Speaking with the media on Tuesday, Prof Alam said Afsana’s blood pressure had a reading of 120/80mm Hg. Her liver, kidneys and heart were functioning properly.
“She is breathing through a ventilator, but the brain is not responding as much as expected,” he added.
Afsana’s brother-in-law Imtiaz Ahmed said, Abid and Afsana’s 16-year-old son Tanzid Sultan is currently staying with his grandfather at Uttara.
Imtiaz, on behalf of the family, asked everyone to pray for the quick recovery of Afsana.
