Concerted efforts to stop repressions on women stressed

Primary and Mass Education Minister Mostafizur Rahman called for concerted efforts to stop violence and repressions towards women and children.
“We should change our mindset towards girl child. Conducive atmosphere should be ensured to protect women children rights,” he told a seminar on “Special budget for skill enhancement training of teachers and students for prevention of women and children repression” at BRAC centre here.
Bangladesh Nari Progoti Sangha in association with Trust Fund organized the seminar. Member of parliamentary standing committee on women and children affairs Mahabub Ara Gini, member of parliamentary standing committee on education Golam Mostafa and member of the parliamentary standing committee on food Md Abdul Wadud and former director of Education and Research Institute of Dhaka University Prof Siddiqur Rahman, among others, addressed the seminar.
Senior Research Fellow of Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies Dr Mahfuz Kabir presented the keynote paper with executive director of the Nari Progoti Sangha Rokeya Kabir in the chair.
Mostafizur said repressive culture on women has to be rooted out from society for
ensuring their equal rights in every sphere of society. “Equal rights should be ensured at
family level first, which eventually will help establish their rights in other spheres of
society,” he added.
