Concerted efforts needed to protect child rights’

Holistic approach of all government, non-government organizations and individuals concerned has become an urgent need to protect the legitimate rights of children equally for both boys and girls as they will be the key players to take the nation forward in future.
The children must be freed from all sorts of cruelties and inhuman behaviours, violation, repression and deprivation for building them as worthy citizens and social contributors. Tolerable Social responsibility and political will is very much important to this end.
The observation came at a roundtable meeting titled “Friendly Behaviour towards Children” in the city on Sunday. World Vision Bangladesh and Lady’s Organization for Social Welfare (LOFS), two non-government development organisations, arranged the meeting at SK Food Restaurant.
During their two concept paper presentations, LOFS Panel Lawyer Shahinul Haque and Programme Officer of World Vision Debasish Snal gave an overview of the city’s violation and repression against children.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Salahuddin and Special Superintendent of Police Ahmed Al Mamun addressed the meeting as chief and special guests respectively with LOFS Vice-president Azizur Rahman in the chair.
Editor of Daily Sonar Desh Akbarul Hassan Millat, LOFS Executive Director Shahnaz Parveen and Prof Mustafizur Rahman from Department of Anthropology of Rajshahi University also spoke.
The discussants unequivocally called for ensuring equal rights for
development of children latent talents as they constitute a significant portion of the country’s total population.
Md Salahuddin stressed that children should be taught positive social values and encouraged to develop healthy behaviors at an early age. Apart from this, he emphasized the need for ensuring children’s safety and security and stopping child marriage for the greater national interest.
