Speakers at a post-rally discussion mentioned that concerted efforts of all government and non-government organizations concerned can be the vital means of preventing child labour.
They termed the child labour as gross violation of child rights, they unequivocally called for forging social resistance besides creating large-scale mass-awareness and social responsibility to prevent child labour.
All owners of mills and factories should come forward and work together to eliminate the child labour for protecting their legitimate rights as the present government is very much positive towards eliminating the social crime. Ladies Organization for Social Welfare (LOFS) and World Vision Bangladesh jointly organized the discussion to mark the Word Child Labour Prevention Day. Child Rights Forum supported the meeting held recently at LOFS office in Rajshahi.
LOFS Executive Director Shahnaz Parveen Lucky, Vice President Azizur Rahman, Legal Secretary Advocate Shahinul Haque, Programme Manager Md Shalah Uddin and Programmme Officer Champa Khatun and School Teacher Sekendar Ali addressed the meeting.
The discussants termed the children as the future power of the nation and called for ensuring equal rights. All the children need teaching of positive family and social values side by side with the institutional ones. Child rights are a major issue, which covers their education, health, nutrition and entertainment needs.
“If the country can ensure women-friendly and child-friendly environment then the child rights will be easily ensured,” they said.
During his concept paper presentation, Advocate Shahinul Haque said physical and mental development of children couldn’t be possible until they were protected from risky labour.
The lawyer said children should be protected from all sorts of labour, violence, repression and oppression so that they could make themselves competent enough to serve the nation. He stressed that children should be taught positive social values and encouraged to develop healthy behaviors at an early age.
Apart from this, he emphasized the need for ensuring children’s safety and security and stopping early marriage for the greater national interest.
