Comprehensive plan for removing poverty, gender inequality stressed

Speakers at a convention here stressed the need for undertaking a comprehensive plan for removing poverty and gender inequality from the society, saying that these two issues need to be considered in a broad social perspective for a lasting solution.
The existing differences of the roles of male and female in the society, their demands and limitation will have to be identified for framing a proper plan for the solution, they said on Friday while speaking at separate sessions of the second day of the two-day international convention styled “Gender and Women Empowerment” kicked off.
Institute of Microfinance (InM) organized the convention, said a press release. InM executive director Professor M.A Baki Khalili delivered the welcome speech at the opening session.
InM director Professor Nazrul Islam chaired the plenary session while Professor Dr Sardar Aminul Islam of Dhaka University and VC of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur Professor Dr AKM Nurunnabi presented the keynote paper on “Poverty and Empowerment in Bangladesh: Gender Perspectives.”
