The prevailing complications over the ground rent of containers between the Bangladesh Inland Container Depots Association(BICDA)and Shipping Agents Association ended with amicable solutions and hence BICDA suspended their proposed action programs .
A meeting in connection with BICDA and SAA was held on Sunday with new Port Chairman Rear Admiral M Khaled Iqbal in the chair at Bandar Bhaban which continued about 3 hours and both the parties agreed to resolved the matter.
In presence of the representatives of BICDA and SAA , port and customs officials , President of BICDA Nurul Quayum Khan announced to suspend their pre-announced strike programs, sources said. Sources said CPA chairman holds 4 meetings separately with the BICDA and SAA . After final consensus of the arising disputes on container ground rent it was finally fixed that loading , unloading of containers in ICDs Tk.300 , haltage charge Tk.1000(for 20 feet container) & Tk.2000 (for 40 feet container) , export consignment laded container Tk.3,600 (20 feet container) & Tk.4800 (40 feet container) , documentation charge Tk.240 each and ground rent for empty containers Tk.100(for 20 feet) and Tk.200(for 40 feet). A port user sources said it was the great achievement of the newly joined Port Chairman that the long standing diputes between BICDA and SAA is resolved amicably . Among others, President of Metropolitan chamber of commerce and Vice President of BICDA Khalilur Rahman ,BICDA President Nurul Kayum Khan, senior vice chairman of SAA Ahsanul Hoque chowdhury, President of Container shipping agents Association Captain Gias, Member of CPA(Engineering) Commodore Zulfikar Aziz, Member(habour) Commodore Shahin Alam, Director (Traffic) Golam Sarwar, first vice President of BICA SAJ Rizvi Khan, Vice President Md. Younus, General secretary Ruhul Amin Sikder, Shaheed Sarwar, and the owners of the ICDs in Chittagong were present in the meeting, General Secretary of BICDA told this correspondent. Ruhul Amin Sikder said the new tariff will come into effect from April 01, which will remain valid upto April next year.
Newly joined CPA Chairman in his brief deliberations told that Chittagong Port is the driving force of the national economy and any deadlock in the port won’t be allowed .He said the charges of ICDs should be justified as per present global market and these ICDs are working for the greater interest of the Chittagong Port . He said there should be a specific policy for ICD which will be finalized very shortly.
