Experts at a function here on Monday suggested to provide Taka 25 thousand and every day transport facilities to each worker of those tanneries which would be shifted from the city’s Hajaribagh to Savar as compensation.
They came up with the recommendation at a publication ceremony of a survey report titled “Rapid Assessment on Hajaribagh Tanneries” organized by South Asian Network on Economic Modeling (SANEM) at PRI auditorium at Banani in the city.
SANEM Chairman Dr Bazlul Haque Khandker presented the keynote paper while Policy Research Institute (PRI) Chairman Dr Zaidi Sattar, Professor of Dhaka University Development Studies Dr Abu Yusuf, Leather Goods and Footwear Manufacturer and Exporters’ Association Head of Policy and Resource Mustain Billah addressed the function, among others.
The speakers suggested full introduction of environment friendly Central Effluent Treatment Plants (CETP) to all shifted tanneries and providing gas and electricity connections soon to the remaining tanneries.
