The International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction has been celebrated by Bogura District Administration with various programmes in order to build infrastructure, reduce the risk of life and property in compliance with the rules.
DC Foyez Ahmed led a rally from his office premises on Sunday and headed around the city’s main roads.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Ujjal Kumar Ghosh, Sadar upazila Nirbahi Officer Azizur Rahman, Assistant Director of Branch Fire Service and Civil Defense Anisur Rahman, District Tran and Rehabilitation Officer Anisur Rahman, Station Officer Bazlur Rashid, Sadar Upazila Project Implementation Officer Riaz were present at the rally and discussion meeting.
Later, Deputy Commissioner Faiz Ahmed spoke in the discussion meeting as chief guest. DC said Bangladesh is a role model in dealing with the disaster. The current government is working to reduce the lives and resources of people in disasters. Raise awareness among the common people in disaster mitigation. We have to prepare before the disaster comes. It is possible to reduce the loss of resources in a disaster.
Gopalganj Correspondent says: The International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction was observed with a befitting manner in Gopalganj on Sunday. The theme of the day was “by following the rules, we build infrastructure, reduce the risk of life and property”
District Administration, Gopalganj organised the programme. On the occasion of the day, they brought out a colourful rally and chanting slogans. The rally paraded main roads in the city.
After rally a discussion meeting was held at Gopalganj Poura Park in Gopalganj City. Shahida Sultana, DC, Gopalganj preside over the programme.
Among others, Kazi Shahidul Islam, ADC (Gen), Gopalganj, Md. Sadikur Rahman Khan, UNO, Gopalanj Sadar, Amit Roy, Assistant Commissioner, Milon Saha, Assistant Commissioner, Mahabub Ali Khan, General Secretary, District Awami League, Gopalganj, Md. Amir Hossain, Relief and Resettlement Officer, Nur Mohammad Shikder, Station Officer, Fire Service and Civil Defense Station, Gopalganj Unit, Shariful Islam, Fire Service and Civil Defense Station, Tungipara Unit and Shoilen Folia, Seniour programme officer, CCDB, Gopalganj were spoken on the occasion.
Earlier Fire Service and Civil Defense Station, Gopalganj Unit and Tungipara Unit jointly arranged a firing maneuver on earthquake and firing disaster at Gopalganj Poura Park in the city.
Staff Reporter from Kishoreganj says: Kishoreganj District Administration including Disaster Management and Relief Ministry arranged a colourfull rally, discussion and exhibition of documentary film marking the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction on Sunday.
A discussion meeting on reduce disaster damage to critical infrastructure and disruption of basic service was held at collectorate conference room on Sunday.
Bhangura (Pabna) Correspondent reports: The International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction was observed at Bhangura Upazila of Pabna district on Sunday. On the occasion, rallies, anti-seismic and fire fighting trials and discussion meetings were held in the Upazila Parishad premises. UNO Syed Asrafujjaman presided over the meeting. Among othersAzida Parvin Pakhi, Upazila Vice Chairman,Belal Hossain Khan ,Bhangura UP Chairman,K.M Jahangir Hossain, Upazila Education Officer and Hasnat Jahan,Upazila Women Affairs Officer were spoke in the meeting.
Later, a symbolic operation was shown led by Chatmohar Fire Service Station Officer Md. Mainur Rahman with the children on how to safely come down from the building and rescue the injuredduring the earthquake.
BSS from Rangpur reports: Speakers at a discussion on Monday laid emphasis on community-based adequate early preparedness along with efficient emergency response management systems for minimising risks of lives and properties caused natural disasters.
Officials and experts expressed the views at the post-rally discussion organised by the district administration at Rangpur Zilla School ground here in observance of the International Day for Disaster Reduction-2019.
After bringing out of the rally, Personnel of Rangpur Fire Service and Civil Defense Station, Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) volunteers and Scouts demonstrated a mock fire fighting drills on the school ground in presence of huge crowds.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Syed Enamul Kabir attended discussion as chief guest with Headmaster of Rangpur Zilla School ARM Mizanur Rahman in the chair.
Moderated by District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer ATM Akhteruzzaman, Acting Deputy Director of Rangpur Fire Service and Civil Defense Station Ohidul Islam, Secretary of Rangpur unit of BDRCS Rawshanul Kaiser Sangram and District Scouts Commissioner Siddikur Rahman spoke as special guests.
ATM Akhteruzzaman, in his keynote speech, discussed various types of natural disasters and statistics of damages caused recently by major disasters in the country and world and forwarded suggestions to reduce disaster risks everywhere, including urban areas.
He said the present government has taken various time-befitting steps to reduce disaster risks through disseminating information and warnings and ensuring early preparedness, training and emergency response management systems.
BSS from Gaibandha says: The International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction was observed in the district on Sunday as elsewhere in the country and the globe with a call to remain always ready to tackle disasters during the emergencies.
This year’s theme of the day was “Reduce Disaster Damage to Critical Infrastructure and Disruption of Basic Services”.
Marking the day, district administration chalked out the elaborate programmes in cooperation with Disaster Risk Management (DRM) project of BDRCS and Swiss Red Cross, brac, SKS Foundation, and GUK.
In the morning around 10 am, a grand rally led by deputy commissioner (DC) was brought out from Independence Square and ended at the campus of Gaibandha Govt. Girls’ High School after parading the main roads of the town.
BSS from Rajshahi adds: Speakers at a discussion unanimously stressed the need for public awareness and modernised training to protect life, livelihood and resources of millions of vulnerable people across the country.
It will not only save vulnerable people exposed to natural disasters in various forms but also pave the way for sustainable development of the country, the speakers added.
They viewed the rate of disaster risks is gradually mounting due to various natural and man-made calamities. So, there is no alternative to collective efforts of all government and non-government organizations in this regard.
District Administration and Department of Disaster Management jointly organised the discussion in Luxmipur Girls High School in observance of the International Day for Disaster Reduction-2019 here on Monday . “Build to Last” was the main theme of the day.
