Direct road communication has been disrupted since Friday noon after a bridge collapsed by the hit of a sand carrier cargo at Kalaskathi under Bakerganj Upazila of Barisal.
Abul Bashar, a businessman of Kalashkathi Bazaar , said ML Sonartari, a sand laden cargo suddenly hit the structure of iron-bridge over the canal connecting seven villages of adjacent unions of the area on Friday noon.
Due to this direct road communications between Bagdia, Kabai, Lakkhipasha, Nalua, Dhaparkathi, Kochnagor, and Dudhal became disrupted, local sources said.
Sub Inspector Hanif, second officer of Bakerganj police station, visiting the area and quoting witnesses said driver of the sand carrier cargo loosing control over the vessel hit the structure of the bridge at about 11:30 AM Friday.
The broken structure fell on the vessel and without removing that, the bridge could not be repaired. Driver and crews leaving the vessel managed to flee from the area after the accident.
