30 athletes fight for Bangladesh: Commonwealth Games begins today in Glasgow

The 20th Commonwealth Games, the biggest sports carnival of 71 Commonwealth countries, begins today (Wednesday) at the Celtic Park in Glasgow, Scotland with 30 athletes battling for Bangladesh.
A 69-member Bangladesh contingent, including 30 athletes, reached the games venue in Glasgow on Monday.
A total of around 6,500 athletes and officials from 71 countries will compete in 17 disciplines of sports at 14 venues in Glasgow and adjoining areas. They are now settling into their home at the Athletes’ Village in Glasgow’s East End ahead of the 13 days of sporting festival.
Bangladesh team will compete in the record 10 disciplines of sports — athletics, badminton, boxing, cycling, gymnastics, table tennis, shooting, swimming, wrestling and weightlifting — in this mega games event of the Commonwealth countries.
Bangladesh will start their campaign in the mega games on Thursday (July 24) with eleven Bangladeshi athletes competing in five disciplines of sports.
Bangladesh events on Thursday are: Mahfuza Khatun (swimming-50m and 100m Breaststroke), Al Amin (Boxing: 64 kg), Sura Krishna Chakma (Boxing: 60 kg), Arif Hossain (Boxing: 69 kg), Iftekhar Alam Reefat (Cycling: sprint & team sprint), Tarikul Islam (Cycling: sprint & team sprint), Alamgir (Cycling: team sprint), Mollah Sabira (Weightlifting: 48 kg), Manash Chowdhury (Table Tennis: team event), Javed Ahmed (Table Tennis: team event) and Khandokar Al Mahbub Billah (Table Tennis: team event).
