Commercial sheep rearing changes socio-economic condition of poor in N-dists

With government initiative sheep rearing has made many poor people self-reliant in eight northern districts .
They have been able to bring a noticeable change in socio-economic condition by raring the sheep with assistance of the authority concern.
According to Department of District lives stock (DDL) office source the farmers of Bogra, Naogaon, Natore, Sirajganj, Joypurhat, Pabna, Chapainawanganj and Rajshahi districts of Rajsahhai division have started rearing sheep commercially hoping for good profit.
They have already brought a revolutionary changed to drive the course of poverty thorough the business from the last few years. They can earn huge money easily as the ship has strong pandemic capacity compare to other animal. An aged sheep gives birth four to six kids in a year in two times give birth process. But, the farmer should be very serious to rear the animal. Every day they need to clean the farm as they may be caught with different disease round the year.
In a recent visit he correspondent found the farmers are passing busy time to take care the flock of sheep from the very early in the morning to late afternoon in a view to get a successful profit. The butchers are selling each KG of mutton with Tk 600 while meat is being sold from Tk 400 to 430 elsewhere the district.
The mutton is very tasteful than other meat said, customer Amminur Hissain, 26, at Kushumba village under Manda upazila of the district. The farm owners are keeping a vital role to bring the financial solvency in the region rearing the animal.
“I have taken five sheep from Kustia three year back with Tk 1950 in a view to rear them in my home based tin shed farm,” said farmer Jalal Uddin under Kalai municipality of Joypurhat district.
He again said, “I have total 35 sheep worth Tk 90 thousand if the price remains high. My farm is expanding gradually as we take care to the cattle head round the clock”

District Livestock Officer (DLO) Md. Abdus Alam Sonar said the poor and marginal farm owners of the district are showing more interest to rear sheep commercially as it’s proved them more lucrative investing trifling capital.
