A Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader of Comilla Sadar upazila unit, who received bullet injury on Saturday, succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital in the district on Sunday morning.
The victim has been identified as M Saiful Islam, 36, president of Sadar unit of BCL. He was the son of Nurul Huda Kalu of Gobindapur area in the district. Comilla Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khorshed Alam said: “The supporters of Railway Minister Mujibul Haque and MP AKM Bahauddin Ahmed locked in a clash over arranging a rally at Kandipar of Comilla Town in the afternoon, that left Saiful bullet wound and 15 others injured.”
Saiful succumbed to his injuries in undergoing treatment at a local hospital around 9:00am on Sunday, the police official said.
Saiful was beaten, shot and hacked by the rival group during the clash, the OC said.
Both the rival groups blast cocktails and opened fire, he said.
The body was sent to Comilla Medical College and Hospital for autopsy, he said. A case was filed in this connection, the OC added.
