Comedian Anis passes away

Noted comedian Anisur Rahman, popularly known as ‘Anis’ on both big and small screens, died at his residence in the city’s Avoy Das Lane, Tikatuli area at 11:00pm on Sunday. He was 78. He lost his wife in 2013.
Anis was suffering from old-age complications for long. He entertained the audience for decades with his spontaneous comic acting. On Monday, the actor’s first Namaz-e-janaza was held at Tikatuli Jam-e Mosque at 9:00am, then second Janaza was held at BFDC at 11:00am. Later his body was taken to his ancestral home at Ballabpur village in Chhagalnaiya Upazila in Feni following a funeral prayer. He was laid to rest at his family graveyard in the evening.
Anis began his career as an actor in comic role in 1960 with the film Bishkonnya. However, the film was never released. His first released film was Ei To Jibon in 1963 directed by Zillur Rahman. Then, he never looked back and performed over 250 films.
Anis acted in many programmes on Bangladesh Television since its inception. He was a theatre actor too. He rose to fame in the genre playing the character Golam Hossain in the play Nawab Sirajuddoula.
The actor’s father had business of tea garden in Jalpaiguri. Due to his father’s business Anis had to stay with his father though he was also born there. His elder brother Lutfar Rahman was working in FDC. He brought Anis to work in Saidur Rahman’s studio as a photographer. Later he also worked in editing with noted directors Ehtesham and Mustafiz before starting acting in film.
