A college teacher was shot dead by some unidentified snatchers in broad daylight on the Lalpur-Bagha Road in Lalpur upazila of Natore district on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Mosharraf Hossain, 38, a Lecturer of the Bangla Department of Mohorkoya Degree College in the upazila. He was the son of Mohammad Ali, inhabitant of Pirgachha village in Bagha upazila of Rajshahi district, police said.
Quoting the witnesses, Lalpur Police Station Officer in-Charge (OC) Abu Obaid said, “The teacher was returning home from college riding in his bike.
When he reached near the Tin Khuti turning at Badlibari on the Lalpur-Bagha Road around 1:00pm, the miscreants tried to intercept and shot at him as he tried to escape. He fell down on the ground and three attackers fled with his bike.”
The local people took him to the Bagha Upazila Health Complex in a critical condition where the duty doctors declared him dead around 1:30pm, the police official said.
The motive of the murder could not be known immediately but police primarily suspected that snatchers might have shot the teacher for snatching his motorbike, the OC said.
“We are trying to arrest the killers,” he said, adding that the body was sent to the Natore Sadar Hospital for an autopsy.
Bagha Upazila Health Complex Physician Zahurul Islam said that Mosharraf had two bullet injuries and that might be the reason of his death.
