A college teacher was beaten to death in an attack by his rivals at Paschim Moheshkhalia Para village in Teknaf upazila on Friday.
The deceased was identified Shamsul Alam, 50, professor of Teknaf Degree College and son of late Fazlul Karim of the village. Police and witnesses said a group of 15-20 people suddenly attacked Shamsul when he was leading a group during arbitration at the village at noon and beat and hit him with deadly weapons, leaving him critically injured.
Shamsul was first admitted to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex and later shifted to Cox’s Bazar district hospital as his condition deteriorated.
Shamsul died on way to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) from the Cox’s Bazar hospital around 9pm. Officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station Muktar Hossain said on information, police recovered the body and sent it to CMCH morgue for an autopsy.
