The sound of explosion of ‘several cocktails’ was heard at an abandoned place in the city’s Moghbazar area on Sunday morning.
However, no casualty was reported from the incident.
Being informed by locals, police rushed to the spot and saw what they suspected were cocktail bombs. Then members of the bomb disposal unit defused the recovered cocktails.
Ramna Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kazi Moinul Hossein said that they have taken six persons from a nearby house to the police station for initial interrogation.
Police said that locals had reported hearing a loud sound of what seemed like explosions and had seen smoke rising from a dustbin on Sunday around 9:45am.
Moniruzzaman, a witnesses, said that they heard the sound of explosion at Doctor’s Goli (lane) in Mogbazbazar area in the morning, and informed the matter to law enforcers.
During the police also found several unexploded crude bombs lying there, the OC added.
“A team of Bomb Disposal Unit has reached the place to look into the matter,” he said.
In a query, the OC said that they would free the detained persons as they have proved innocent as per primary investigation.
