Coal loaded cargo ship sinks at Mongla Port

A coal loaded Cargo Ship named MV Iptia Mahin sank at Katakhali area of Pashur River on Tuesday noon. 10 crews of the ship were rescued with the help of neighboring crews of the other cargo ship. No casualty is recorded but all the goods along with coal sank into the river.
Shah Alam, master of the damaged ship has told that after loading 7 hundred metric tones of coal from 6 no. Buoy of Harbaria Area of Mongla Sea Port, it anchored at Creak Buoy of Katakhali Area of Pashur River on Monday. It was supposed to go to Noapara of Jessore. But for strong tide, the rope of the anchored ship Iptia separated and collided with another cargo ship on Tuesday noon. As a result, it sank into the river. At that time, the crews of the sinking ship started hue and cry. Listening this, the neighboring crews of the other cargo ship rescued them with the help of trawlers.
Harbor Master of Mongla Port Commander Fakhor Uddin has told the newsmen that the cargo Ship sank outside the main channel of Poshur River. For this, the main channel is safe and sound and no impact of it falls on the activities of Mongla port.
Earlier, another coal loaded Cagro Ship named MV BB-1148 sank at Poshur River on 27th February loading another 7 hundred metric tones of coal.
