Taking the disguise of a Laguna helper, Jatrabari Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Bilal Al Azad brings the breakthrough of a sensational murder!
Using his strategic and fancy investigation, ultimately he became successfull to bring out the killer of the victim to the spot light.
Earlier, police have recovered the body of an unidentified man from the capital’s Mayor Hanif Flyover. The CCTV footage showed the victim was being thrown from a Laguna. However, the Laguna number plate could not be seen. The only clue found in the CCTV footage was that the backpedal of the Laguna was red coloured. Jatrabari Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Bilal Al Azad started the job as a helper of Laguna to find the killers.
Being helper of the laguna, he served in the capital’s Jatrabari, Signboard, Demra and Chittagong Road for five days in a row, and finally he revealed the mystery of the clue-less murder. Four people were arrested with the identification of the Laguna.
According to sources, SI Billal took disguise as a helper of a three-wheeler known as a Laguna, conducted an undercover investigation and subsequently cracked the case on Jan 26, arresting four killers in connection with the murder.
Even SI earned Tk 300 per day while working as the driver’s assistant.
The arrestees confessed to mugging Laguna passengers after they were caught and interrogated. They snatched around Tk 5,000 from the victim before pushing the man from the laguna.
The victim, was identified as Mohir Uddin, 50, was a fish trader in the city.
Azad collected CCTV footage of the flyover to figure out how Mohir died.
He started searching for the Laguna with the red footrest after he was put in charge of the investigation. Hiding his identity, Azad took the job of a Laguna helper on the route through Jatrabari, Signboard, Konabari, Demra, Chattogram Road and Narayanganj’s Jalkuri by way of a broker.
Azad attempted to gather information on the murder by getting close to the drivers and other helpers. He continued to search for the Laguna from morning to night.
“I searched for the Laguna at every stand but couldn’t find it. I started becoming hopeless after a while,” Azad said.
At one point, Azad began to ask the linemen if they had a Laguna for him to drive. One lineman told him that Laguna No. 728was parked in a garage in Kadamtali for the repair. After visiting the garage, he finally spotted the Laguna with the red footrest. It was lying at the garage in an unusable state. And there was known the name of driver.
After learning that the driver Farhad was staying at his father-in-law house in Madaripur, Billal went there.
Though he had found Farhad, he was not the key to the case. Farhad claimed he returned to Madaripur on Jan 21 after handing over the Laguna. An investigation also revealed the claim was correct.
Then Azad learned that, after Farhad’s departure, a man named Monju began driving the Laguna, accompanied by a helper named Abdur Rahman.
“After receiving this information, I came back to Dhaka and started looking for Monju and Abdur Rahman. But it became hard to locate them as they didn’t have any phones, SI added.”
After that, we started looking for the driver Monju and Abdur Rahman through other colleagues cooperation. At one stage, Rahman was found but Manzur was not found.
Manjur was being sought after keeping Rahman under surveillance. Manzur was then found by chance at the signboard stand. Ripon and Rubel were arrested on the basis of their information, SI said.
“Of the day, they snatched Tk 5,900 from Mohir Uddin and threw him off the Laguna. Later, they bought fuel for Tk 700, and yaba tablets worth Tk 2,000. Monju said they had breakfast in the morning and spent Tk 1,000 on it.”
It is mentionable that SI BIllal didn’t do it for the first time, in 2017; he took on the guise of a street hawker to arrest a murderer.
