Classes under open sky as storm damages 30 schools in Nilphamari

Academic activities of 30 school are being hampered seriously as those were damaged by a nor’wester that lashed Jaldhaka upazila on May 10.
Students of the educational institutions are being compelled to attend the classes under the open sky.
Upazila primary and secondary education office sources said 21 primary schools and nine high schools were damaged by the storm. The losses caused by the storm were estimated at Tk 61.10 lakh.
Mizanur Rahman, the headmaster of Uttar Bogulagari Masterpara government primary school, said that all the classrooms of his schools were damaged by the storm which is hampering academic activities.
Chanchal Kumar Bhowmik, secondary education officer of Jaldhaka upazila, said they have sent a demand letter to the authorities concerned authority mentioning the damages and losses.
Kajal Kumar Sarker, upazila primary education officer, said a list of the damaged educational institutions has been prepared.
On May 10, seven people were killed as nor’wester lashed Jaldhaka and Domar upazilas of the district at night.
Besides, a number of houses and educational institutions were damaged and trees uprooted in the two upazilas during the storm.
