The city dwellers from different areas have been suffering severely from acute scarcity of water causing troubles during the month of Ramzan, victim residents complained.
“We are facing untold sufferings from water crisis in this Ramzan. We get only a few drops of water once or twice in 24 hours. How can we meet our daily water demand from a few mugs of water? The authority should look into the matter seriously,” said Nilufar Yasmin, a housewife of Mirhajirbagh in the city.
She also said they cannot drink enough water required during Iftar, after observing fast in these long summer days.
They have been passing hard times washing their cloths, dishes and floors due to shortage of water.
The residents from Jatrabari and Sayedabad area in the city stated the similar experience.
Kaneej Tabassum from Sayedabad area said she is facing acute crisis of water from morning to night every day.
A good numbers of unwashed clothes are heaped of, but there is no a drop of water. No one is able to realize how much trouble we go through every day due to water crisis.
“Who can answer me how I can wash my dishes for preparing items before Ifter and provide those to my family members especially elder ones? It is really painful for every housewife around us,” Tabassum said.
Her husband frequently goes to office without taking bath in the morning due to shortage of water, she added.
Besides these, there is acute scarcity of water causing serious problems in the city’s Mohammadpur, Adabar, Nabadoy Housing, Mohammadia Housing, Lalmatiya, Shekhertek and other adjacent residential areas.
“We failed to get a lorry of water from WASA though we wanted to pay Tk 500. They (WASA) could not provide a water van due to shortage of water,” said Ahmed Hossain, a private jobholder form Lalmatiya.
He said the water shortage has created untold sufferings for every family in the areas.
When contacted, Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority’s Managing Director Taqsem A Khan told The New Nation on Tuesday, “There is no water crisis in the city. If there is any problem in any area, it is temporary.”
He said that WASA must provide water if anyone wants.
But the employees from water pump stations in different areas in the city said they are facing scarcity of water.
“Earlier we lifted 2000 liter of water every day but now it has decreased to 1400 liter,” said an employee from a Rampura pump station, preferring anonymity.
Fahad Hossain, a Rampura resident told The New Nation on Tuesday,
“There is serious water crisis in our area for last few days. The WASA is rationing water among the residents of our areas in different times every day.”
He said that the residents of his area are facing serious problem to observe fasting due to acute water crisis. Even house owners, after hours of efforts, cannot even start their water motor due to lack of water, he added.
