City dwellers agonizing with mosquito infestation

Mosquitoes do not die after insecticide spray, situation will worsen in February, March: Expert

The allegations of mosquito infestation by city dwellers are in almost all areas of the capital Dhaka around the year.
The two city corporation had been tried to control mosquito breeding by the spraying insecticides across the city area at all time. However, all kind of activities for controlling the mosquito spreading became vain this year. The unlimited contagions of mosquito this year have already been out of control. As a result, the residence of the capital facing hardship similarly two city corporations are in trouble.
Last year the authority of the two city corporations were very careful about the spreading of Dengue. So, the activities for controlling dengue menace were on tight surveillance. So, despite the dengue outbreak, it did not make much trouble last year.
But at the end of the dengue season, the mosquito infestation has increased again. But this time it is not the Aedes mosquito, it is all over the Culex. However, the city dwellers complained that the mosquito infestation did not decrease even after spraying insecticides.
The officials of Dhaka’s two city corporations said that they are getting reports of mosquito infestation from different areas. They said, the two city corporations are working with mosquito experts to find out exactly why the mosquito infestation is so rampant.
The officials hope that they will be able to control the mosquitoes in a couple of weeks.
A night guard from Afsar Uddin lane of Jigatola said, the workers of the city corporations sprayed mosquito insecticide one day after. But mosquitoes do not decrease.
Dhaka North City Corporation (DSCC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Md Selim Reza said, “We are looking for the causes as for what and from where these mosquitoes are breading. He said, we are doing this through the coordination of IEDCR and entomologists. At the same time, we continue to apply the fourth generation larvicide pesticides.
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Public Relation Officer Md Abu Naser said, the mosquito infestations have increased DSCC’s areas also.
He said, DSCC’s Mayor has aware about the issue. Mayor has given proper directions to the related officials to control the mosquito’s infestation.
Entomologist and professor of zoology at Jahangirnagar University, Kabirul Bashar, said that the infestation of the mosquito did not increase suddenly. During winter season the breading of the Culex mosquito got increase.
Kabirul Bashar said, if the increasing trend of the mosquito what we seen last two weeks was not possible to control it will make worse situation in February, March.
He also gave advice to the two city corporations to strictly strengthen the larvicide system.
