Citizens committee formed in UK to celebrate Mujib Year

A citizens’ committee has been formed and year-long elaborate programmes have been taken in the United Kingdom (UK) to mark the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The citizens committee comprising a cross section of expatriate Bangladeshis including freedom fighters, politicians, litterateur, journalist, professionals, community leaders and cultural activists, has been formed with renowned journalist Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury as its convener.
Bangladesh High Commissioner in the UK Saida Muna Tasneem has been made Chief Patron of the committee while Sultan Mahmud Sharif and General Secretary of the Awami League unit in the United Kingdom Syed Sajidur Rahman Faruque have been made Executive Convener and Member Secretary respectively of the committee.
The citizens committee formation along with the yearlong programmes was announced in a press conference held at the London-Bangla Press Club on February 18.
The yearlong programmes will start on Bangabandhu’s birthday on March 17 and it will continue till March 17 in 2021.
