CID team visits Tonu murder spot

A team of police’s Criminal Investigation Department has arrived in Comilla to investigate the murder and suspected rape of Victoria Government College student Sohagi Jahan Tonu.The team sat with Comilla district Superintendent of Police (SP) Shah Abid Hossain at his office on Tuesday noon. The investigators later visited the scene in Mainamati Cantonment where Tonu’s body was found, said Additional SP Ashraf Bhuiyan.He told this news agency “Two CID teams were supposed to come (to Comilla) to probe Tonu murder. One of them has arrived.” Tonu had left the house of the student she tutored for her home – both inside the Mainamati Cantonment – at around 7:30pm on Mar 20. Her body was found two hours later in a bush.Her remains are yet to be exhumed after a Comilla court on Monday ordered fresh post-mortem on a petition by Comilla Detective Branch OC Mohammad Manjur Alam.After the court order, the district’s deputy commissioner asked Muradnagar Upazila Executive Officer Begum Lutfunnahar and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Ali Asgar to supervise the exhumation.Asgar told bdnews24.com on Tuesday that they would go to Tonu’s grave at Muradnagar when the Detective Branch wanted. The detectives on March 25 were tasked with the investigations.
