Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has claimed of busting the biggest question leak cartel, involving government officers and transaction of Tk 10 crore by leaking questions.
Nine people, all of the same cartel, were held in last five days from different areas of the country, the crime busting unit said in a press briefing at Dhaka Metropolitan Police Center on Thursday morning.
CID has also recovered the on-going BCS written question papers and Tk 60,000 from Hasmot.
With the latest arrests, the total number of arrests reached 37.
The accused are Alip Kumar Biswas, Assistant Director of BKSP (suspended) and mastermind of the cartel, Assistant Administrative Officer of BADC Mostafa Kamal, a 36th BCS non-cadre Ibrahim, 38th BCS preliminary qualified Ayub Ali alias Badhan, English teacher of Agrani School Golam Mohammad Babul, Office Assistant of the school Anwar Hosen Majumder and Md Nurul Islam, Social Science teacher Hosne Ara Begum of Dhanmondi Government Boys School, and Office Assistant of the school Hasmot Ali Shikder.
Alip has made a fortune of more than Tk 3 crore out of this question leaking activities while Ibrahim amassed huge property in cash and kinds.
The total estimated wealth of Alip, Ibrahim, Mostafa and Badhon will be about Tk 10 crore, which is expected to rise in further investigation, CID says.
Earlier, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has pledged to crush the evil forces who are jeopardizing the country’s educational sector by leaking question papers of public examinations.
