The Criminal Investigation Department [CID] has started an extensive investigation into the incident of attack on BNP Chairperson’s adviser Reaz Rahman, who was shot and injured by unidentified gunmen in the city’s Gulshan area on Tuesday night. The CID has also planned to talk to former state minister for foreign affairs Reaz Rahman within a short time to find possible clue behind the incident, officials said.
In the meanwhile, an eight-member team of CID led by Inspector Arif Iftekhar visited the spot on Wednesday morning and stayed over one and a half hour there. The CID unit of forensic experts has kept cordoned the place of occurrence.
The CID personnel have collected some evidences from the spot where Reaz Rahman’s private car was also torched by the miscreants.
“We went to the spot to collect possible evidences. We will examine the evidences in the lab,” Inspector Arif said.
State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal yesterday said that the law enforcement agencies have started investigation in the incident of attack on Reaz Rahman.
“An extensive investigation has been launched in this regard. We are not sure as to who has committed the occurrence,” the home boss said.
He said, “A case will be filed in connection with the attack on Reaz Rahman. The case will be like other cases filed in the incidents of blockade, violence and arson attack.”
But no case was filed yet, by Reaz Rahman or by the police, in this regard.
When contacted, Officer-in-Charge [OC] of Gulshan Police Station Rafiqul Islam said last night, “No case has yet been filed till 7:00pm Wednesday.”
In this backdrop, Awami League l has alleged that BNP itself conducted the attack on former state minister for foreign affairs Reaz Rahman.
“The attack on Reaz Rahman is a part of Khaleda’s political blue print and BNP’s countrywide violence and the party itself carried out the attack,” Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif said on Wednesday at a press conference at party President Sheikh Hasina’s political office in the city’s Dhanmondi.
