CHT Banglaee settlers threaten non-stop hartal

Parbatya Bangalee Chhatra Parishad, a student body of settlers in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT), on Monday threatened to go on a non-stop hartal if the draft of the CHT Land Dispute Resolution Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2016 is not revoked.
The announcement came from separate human chain programmes organised by the Parbatya Bangalee Chhatra Parishad in the district town, protesting amendment to the CHT Land Commission Act.
A section of members of the Parbatya Bangalee Chhatra Parishad, led by its district unit general secretary Masum Rana, formed a human chain in front of Khagrachhari Government College around 10 am demanding cancellation of the draft bill.
Besides, another faction of Bangalee Chhatra Parishad, led by its district unit senior vice-president Engineer Abdul Majid, formed a human chain around 11 am at Poura Town Hall Premises in the district protesting the government move to amend the law.
Earlier, Bangalee settlers’ organisations in the Chittagong Hill Tracts called a daylong hartal for Wednesday in the three Chittagong Hill Districts, protesting the government’s move to amend the Chittagong Hill Tracts Land Dispute Resolution Commission Act.
