China has no objection to punitive action in crane accident

China has no objection if any punitive measure is taken against the responsible individuals over the recent tragic crane accident while handling girders that killed five people on the spot.
“There will be no objection if any punitive action is taken up on the recommendations of the probe committee over the crane accident,” Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jiming said on Thursday.
The envoy made the remarks while paying a courtesy call with Secretary of the Road Transport and Highways Division ABM Amin Ullah Nuri in the Secretariat.
Expressing profound grief over the irreparable loss of lives in the Uttara Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) projects fatal crane accident, he said, “A high level delegation of the Chinese contractor of the BRI project has arrived in Dhaka from China to investigate on behalf of the company.”
“The delegation is ready to provide all necessary assistance and cooperation to the probe committee which has been formed by Road Transport and Highways Division,” he added.
ABM Amin Ullah Nuri said the probe committee has been asked to submit its final report within seven days and strict action would be taken following its recommendations.
The Secretary also said, “The whole nation is saddened by the tragic accident. Safe issue is crucial for any development work. We have included an expert from the BUET in the probe committee.”
The fatal crane accident happened on Monday while handling girders by a crane on the busiest road in Uttara, which crushed on a car and killed five out of the seven people on the spot.
Soon after the accident, the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges on the same day formed a six-member probe committee to investigate the incident and asked to submit a report within two days.
The preliminary report of the committee headed by additional secretary of the Road Transport and Highways Division Nilima Akhter found that the contractor firm China Gezhouba Group Company Limited was responsible for the crane accident tragedy.
