Staff Reporter :The mild cold wave continues to sweep over the country disrupting normal life and causing miseries to the poor section of the people for the last three days.Tuesday’s minimum temperature was recorded 7.5 degrees Celsius at Chudanga in Khulna division while the maximum temperature was 27.8 degrees Celsius at Sylhet.Hundreds of cold hit people, mostly children and the elderly men, suffering from different cold-related diseases like fever, pneumonia, bronchiolitis, asthma and allergy have been admitted in the hospitals. Medical officer of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) said, ” It needs pre-caution, not the medicine, to stay out from the diseases.”Meanwhile, fog due to cold weather has disrupted road, river and air communications across the country. The ferry service on Mawa-Kawrakandi route was suspended for six hours yesterday, leaving ferries with some 150 vehicles stranded in the middle of the Padma. The ferry service between Paturia and Daulatdia was also kept suspended for around 11 hours.Passengers’ sufferings mounted as a good number of vehicles were kept waiting in long queues on both sides of the river banks for crossing. However, ferry services on the important route resumed around 10:30 am as fog started disappearing following sunshine. Officials of the Met office said a mild to moderate cold wave that has been sweeping over the country would continue till Wednesday over Rangpur division and the regions of Tangail, Madaripur, Sitakunda Pabna, Jessore, Srimangal, Kushtia and Barisal. It may ease next day. Weather may remain dry with temporary partly cloudy sky over the country today. Night temperature may rise slightly and day temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country. Moderate to thick fog may occur over the river basins and light to moderate fog may occur elsewhere over the country during midnight till morning, a Met Office weather bulletin said.
