Cox’s Bazar Correspondent :

For lack of educational institutions, children at two villages at Teknaf upazila of the district are lagging far behind from those of other areas.
Roikkhong Putibunia, a village under No. 3 Ward of Hoaikong Model union in the upazila, is habited by both ethnic and Bengali community people. But, there are no educational institutions expect a mosque and a temple for their children.
In the adjacent Gongjoigya Mura village, there are 160 families comprising people of both ethnic and Bengali communities. There are also no educational institutions. Besides, the village is lagging far behind in other facilities including electricity and road communication.
At their school age, the children of the two villages have to go to jungle for collecting firewood. Though they want to get educated, they cannot do so since there are no such institutions at their villages.
The nearest educational institutions are located at Unchhiprang and Kanjar Para villages which are far off from their villages. During the rainy season, they can hardly think of going to those institutions for lack of proper communication facilities.
Some villagers- Ulathon Chakma, Ongsogya Chakma, Mongkecha Chakma, Md Altaf Mia and Nurul Kabir said, 95 per cent people of the villagers are illiterate, and are farmers and day-labourers by profession.
To remove illiteracy from these villages, building one or two schools based on mosque and temple or pre-primary educational institutions is necessary.
The guardians, however, demanded their children’s basic right of education.
