Right activists at a seminar on Thursday said though the government allocates a big amount of money for children through child centric budget programme, the allocation don’t reach to the targeted children.
The government allocated Tk 56, 000 crore for child centric programme to 13 ministries and departments in 2017-18 fiscal year, they said.
The speakers expressed their concern citing a study of development agency Save the Children that the percentage of the stipend at education programme has been reduced to maximum 73 percent.
Save the Children in Bangladesh (SCB) organised the seminar titled “Child Budget: Realisation towards the Child Rights in Bangladesh” at CIRDAP auditorium in the city.
SCB officials shared a concept note about the child budget where they mentioned that though the allocation for education has been reduced, the total allocation for the child centric budget has been increased by 21.4 percent in years.
State Minister for Finance MA Mannan was present at the event as the chief guest while Finance Department acting Secretary Mohammad Muslim Chowdhury as the guest of honour at the seminar presided over by SCB Child Rights Governance and Child Protection Director Laila Khondokar. Child Parliament Deputy Speaker Ferdaus Nayem was also present on the occasion.
