Child abuse suspect among 2 killed in `shootouts`

A suspect in a child abuse case was killed in an alleged shootout with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Ulubania in Chakaria upazila of Cox’s Bazar district early Sunday.
The victim has been identified as Abdur Rahim, 20, son of Akhter Ahmed of Ulubania village in the upazila, said RAB-7 Cox’s Bazar Camp Company Commander Major Md Ruhul Amin.
 “A RAB team was dispatched to Ulubania after receiving information that Rahim was there. The criminals there opened fire on the RAB team. The elite force then fired in self-defence. The criminals fled leaving a bullet-struck body behind ,” the RAB official said.
A firearm and three rounds of bullets were found on the spot, Rahim’s body has been sent to the hospital for an autopsy, he said. On March 26, a five-year-old girl was raped at Ulubania. Rahim was made accused in the case filed for raping the girl on March 26, said Bakhtiar Uddin Chowdhury, Officer-in-Charge of Chakaria Police Station.
The girl’s grandfather filed a case against Rahim with the police station on March 28.
Meanwhile, RAB recovered the bullet-ridden body of the suspected robber after an alleged shootout at Shapmari Thermal Power Plant in Rampal Upazila of Bagerhat district. The deceased has been identified as Haidar Ali, about 35 to 40 years of age. He was a member of a gang of forest robbers, said
