Chikunguniya likely to be eliminated thru joint efforts: DNCC Mayor

Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam on Monday said, Chikunguniya and Dengu can be eliminated from the city through combined efforts of the citizens, social organizations and the government.
 “People’s participation only can eliminate Dengu and Chikunguniya by preventing breeding of aedes mosquitoes,” said DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam in a view exchange meeting in this regards at the Nagarbhaban in Gulshan of the capital.
He said, there is no alternative to public awareness than to fight the diseases. To breed awareness among the people, the city corporation will initiate different campaigns in educational institutes, Masjids, temples and different social organizations.
He asked the media to come forward to increase awareness among the people.
The Mayor announces to introduce ‘Mayor Award’ for the best Ward which renders the best services to the citizens every year.
Besides, the best service giving ward will be rewarded with ‘Mujib year award’ in 2020.

Abdul Hai, Panel Mayor Jamal Mostafa, Councillor Dewan Abdul Mannan, Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Mominur Rahman Mamun, were also present.
