Chevron honours students of its 3 gas field areas with stipends

Chevron Bangladesh awarded scholarship among some 824 students from 24 educational institutions near Chevron’s Bibiyana, Jalalabad and Moulavi Bazar natural gas fields.
The was a part of its ongoing yearly scholarship distribution program for financially disadvantaged, meritorious students, said Chevron press release adding that around 66 percent students were female who received the financial support.
The stipends were handed over at a ceremony on Saturday at the premises of the Chevron’s Bibiyana Gas Plant.
Of the scholarships, 22 were given to students who received excellent grades in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations.
Chevron Bangladesh started the scholarship program with only five educational institutions more than 12 years ago. The average pass rate of Chevron’s scholarship recipients in the recently published results of the 2018 Secondary School Certificate exams was about 98 percent, it said.
Aside of its scholarship distribution drive, Chevron’s Quality Education Support Initiative aims to improve the learning environment of schools near its three gas fields.
In addition of the stipends, support is also provided in the form of additional teaching, computer labs, coaching as well as endowment of fund for selected schools with uniforms, sports equipment, furniture and sanitation facilities.

Chevron Bangladesh Director of Policy, Govt & Public Affairs, Ismail Chowdhury, Health, Environment & Safety (HES) Director Ashiq Rahman, Bibiyana Gas Plant Superintendent Bryan Mitisek and senior staff from Bibiyana Gas Plant, among others, attended the scholarship awarding ceremony.
