A section of the disqualified admission seekers of the current academic session (2014-15) under National University, being desperate to manage admission illegally, made a deal with crime syndicates.
They allegedly paid huge amount of money to the crime syndicates comprising some unscrupulous teachers and officials of colleges and student leaders. They swallowed the money of the admission seekers as there is no scope to admit anyone without the knowledge of NU authorities.
The members of the crime syndicates reportedly took Tk 5 to 10 lakh from the admission seekers of each college. But not a single student got admission chance in any of the colleges under their initiative till the date. They just cheated by the syndicates.
Meanwhile, the NU authorities said that no admission seeker has made any written complaint against any person of taking money for admission purpose.
Vice-Chancellor of National University Professor
Harun-or-Rashid told The New Nation that there is no scope to admit any student into the university “illegally”.
“No irregularity will be tolerated. If anybody tries to tarnish the image of the university, we will take stern action against him/her. We are trying to improve the overall quality of NU. Teachers and officials of NU are working hard to make the institution as a standard university,” Prof. Harun said.
Sources said that a group of influential student leaders along with some corrupt teachers and officials of different colleges, including Dhaka College, Eden College, Titumir College, Kabi Nazrul Islam College and Bangla College in the city, took huge amount of money assuring the admission seekers to admit them in the colleges for the current academic session.
In fact, the crime syndicates failed to admit the students in their respective colleges. They even did not return the money to the admission seekers. Not only that they threatened the students of dire consequences, if ask for money.
Meanwhile, the students of Michael Madhusudan (M M) College of Jessore on Tuesday beat a student leader and tied him with a tree as he took at least Tk 10 lakh from the admission seekers of the college. Earlier, the student leader had assured the admission seekers and their guardians that he would manage everything for admission. But when the admission seekers and the guardians came to college and found that the total process of admission was fraud. They have been cheated. They shared the matter to the general students of the college.
When the student leader came to the college on Tuesday, the admission seekers and other students caught him and gave him a good beating. Later, police rescued him from the rage of students and admitted the cheat to Jessore General Hospital.
Forhad Hossain, an admission seeker, said that he gave Tk 50,000 for admission in English Department of the college. The student leader had assured him that he was capable of managing admission of every student. Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Police Station of Jessore Sikder Akkas Ali said they heard that the general students beat the student leader for getting back the money which he took in the name of admission. Later, police recovered him from the spot and admitted to a hospital.
Prof Dr Mobashera Khanom, Member Secretary, 1st year Degree (honors) Admission Test Committee, 2014-15, said that the admission system of NU is transparent. “No one can add any name or remove any roll from the software of the university. The NU authorities admit the student on the basis of merit only. I urge the admission seekers and the guardians not to give any money to any people for admission.”
An admission seeker wishing anonymity told this reporter that an official also took Tk 20,000 from him. Though the admission process is going to be ended, the official is yet to ensure his admission, he alleged.
