Chattogram’s new mayor, councilors sworn in

The newly elected mayor and councilors of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) have been sworn in.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina read the virtual oath to the newly elected mayor of CCC M Rezaul Karim Chowdhury on Thursday.

Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD) Minister Md Tajul Islam read the oath to the councilors.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina joined the video conference from Ganabhaban at the swearing-in ceremony held at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital.

Awami League candidate M Rezaul Karim Chowdhury won the Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) election on January 27 and became the mayor.

The Election Commission (EC), on January 31, published the gazette of the mayor and newly elected councilors.

On March 29 last year, the CCC polls was postponed due to Covid-19. When the term of the then-mayor AJM Nasir Uddin expired, the government-appointed Khorshed Alam Sujan, vice-president of Nagar Awami League, as the administrator of CCC on August 6. His 180-day term ended on February 1 this year.
