A view exchange meeting was held between the people’s representatives and civil society representatives of Sandwip upazila to launch ferry service on Chattogram-Sandwip water route. Passengers also expressed their views on how to make the shipping system easier and safer. Sandwip MP Mahfuzur Rahman Mita, BIWTC Director and Joint Secretary Rashedul Islam, Upazila Chairman Master Shahjahan BA, Vice Chairman Mainuddin Mission were present at the meeting held at Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Conference Hall of Sandwip Upazila Parishad recently. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Samrat Khisa presided over the function.
MP Mahfuzur Rahman Mita said, “We need sincerity and effective initiatives to launch BIWTC ferry service in Sandwip, not just after the feasibility study has been done. Sandwip has national grid electricity, good quality roads, ferry service is not impossible. Only then will the long suffering of the people of Sandwip be alleviated.”
BIWTC Director and Joint Secretary Rashedul Islam said, “Our team has visited various spots in Sandwip. Further feasibility study will be done at the technical level.
Maybe the work of launching ferry service in Sandwip will start soon.”
