Chattogram Challengers recorded a huge six-wicket win over Dhaka Platoon in their Twenty20 cricket match of the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Friday.
Chasing Dhaka Platoon’s modest total of 124 for the loss of nine wickets in the 20 overs,
Chattogram Challengers sailed home making 125 runs for the loss of four wickets when they had eight balls to spare.
Chattogram Challenger made a shaky start as opener Lendl Simmons (15) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Anamul Haque off Mashrafe Bin Mortaza when Chattogram’s score was 25.
Then opener Junaid Siddique (8) could stay at the crease for a short period as he was caught by Shadab Khan off Mahedi Hasan when Chattogram’s total was 25 for the loss of two wickets.
Then Imrul Kayes and Chadwick Walton repaired the damage adding together 41 runs for the third wicket partnership before Walton was caught by Shahid Afridi off Wahab Riaz when Chattogram’s total was 66 for the loss of three wickets.
Imrul Kayes remained unbeaten with 54. His 53-ball innings was laced with five fours and two sixes. Kayes was adjudged the Man of the Match.
Walton hit a fine 25 from 16 balls including three sixes and a four.
After dismissal of Walton, Kayes and Ryan Burl made a worthy partnership. They put up 34 runs in the fourth wicket stand before Burl (13) was bowled out by Wahab Riaz when Chattogram’s score was 100 for the loss of four wickets.
Then Kayes and Nurul Hasan guided their team to reach the winning spot.
Wahab Riaz claimed two wickets instead of 18 runs, while Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and Mahedi Hasan took one wicket each for 14 and 23 runs respectively.
Dhaka Platoon had a good start as openers Tamim Iqbal and Anamul Haque added together 32 runs before Anamul Haque (14) was run out by Chadwick Walton.
Later, Wahab Riaz and Mashrafe Bin Mortaza built an another notable partnership.
They put on together 31 runs in the ninth wicket stand before Wahab Riaz was run out by a joint-effort of Lendl Simmons and wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan Sohan when Dhaka’s innings came to an end.
Second-down Mominul Haque top-scored with 32 runs. He hit three fours in his 34-ball innings.
Wahab Riaz made 23 from 15 balls featuring two sixes.
Tamim Iqbal scored 21 off 27 balls.
Mashrafe Bin Mortaza remained unbeaten with 17. He hit three fours in his 12-ball innings.
Ryan Burl and Muktar Ali of Chattogram Challengers bagged two wickets each at the cost of one and 18 runs respectively.
Nasum Ahmed and Liam Plunkett took one wicket each for 21 and 30 runs respectively.
