Noted film director and producer Chashi Nazrul Islam was laid to rest yesterday beside his mother’s grave at his village home Shomoshpur in Sreenagar upazila of Bikrampur, Munshiganj.
Earlier after the death, his body was taken to his Jasimuddin Road residence in the city’s Kamalapur area in the morning from the hospital and then to the LabAid Hospital mortuary
in the afternoon.
Chashi Nazrul’s first Namaz-e-Janaza was held at the Eden Mosque at Kamalapur in the city.
Later his body was taken to Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) so that his colleagues, actors and actresses could pay tributes to him.
From there, his body was taken to the Baitul Mukarram Mosque for another Janaza.
Ekushey Padak winning filmmaker passed away at LabAid Specialised Hospital in the city on Sunday morning. He was suffering from cancer and various other complications for long. He was 74.
Born in Bikrampur on October 11, 1941, Chashi Nazrul was son of Mosleh Uddin Khan and Shayesta Khanom. He was the eldest among four brothers and three sisters.
Chashi Nazrul Islam received numerous awards and honours throughout his career, with the 2004 Ekushey Padak being the highlight. But what makes his career truly illustrious is the fact that the cast of his films took home a lot of awards.
