Charge sheet filed against 28 for financing militancy in Ctg

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) yesterday submitted charge sheet against 28 people including supreme court lawyer Barrister Shakila Farzana, daughter of former whip and BNP leader Syed Wahidul Alam for financing a militant group Hamza Brigade and recovery of firearms, hand bombs, explosives and training equipment from Banskhali upazila.
RAB, assistant director Ruhul Amin and also investigation officer of the case confirmed that he submitted a charge sheet before the Chittagong Chief Judicial Magistrate Court through the prosecution section of the court on Sunday afternoon. The names of 102 witnesses were mentioned in the charge sheet, he added. Among the charge sheeted accused persons 21 are in jail out of 28, he added.
The charge Sheet was submitted under the Anti-terrorism act after approval of the government, the IO said.
RAB unearthed a militants’ training camp of Shahid Hamza Brigrade at Lotmoni Hill of Sadanpur village under Banshkhali upazila of Chittagong and arrested five people along with huge amount of firearms, a large number of hand bombs, explosives and training equipment on February 28 in 2015.
Later on August 18, in 2015, three lawyers, including Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Shakila Farzana, her juniors Advocate Hasanuzzaman Liton and Advocate Mahfuj Chowdhury Bapon were arrested from Dhanmondi area of Dhaka on charge of providing financial support to the militant organization Shaheed Hamza Brigade.
