A Dhaka court yesterday fixed October 14 for next hearing on the charge framing in Niko graft case against BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and 10 others.
Judge Sheikh Hafizur Rahman of the Special Judge Court-9 of Dhaka set up at the Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj on Monday deferred the date of hearing granting a time petition.
The BNP Chief, who is now undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University
(BSMMU) was not produced in the court on Monday.
On December 9, 2007, the ACC filed the case accusing 11 people over misusing power to grant a gas deal to Canadian company Niko, when Khaleda Zia was the Prime Minister. Signing the deal caused a loss of Tk 137.77 billion to the State. Police submitted the charge-sheet of the case against the accused on May 5, 2008.
Other accused in the case are: BNP Standing Committee Member Moudud Ahmed, former State Minister for Energy AKM Mosharraf Hossain, former Principal Secretary Kamal Uddin Siddique, Khandaker Shahidul Islam, CM Yusuf Hossain, former Bapex General Manager Mir Mainul Haq, its former Secretary Shafiur Rahman, Giasuddin Al Mamun, former MP MAH Selim and former Vice-President of South Asia Affairs Niko Kashem Sharif.
