Charge framed against Pori Moni, others in drug case

 A Dhaka Court yesterday framed charges against Shamsunnahar Smrity, popularly known as Pori Moni, and her two associates, in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act.
The two others are Ashraful Islam Dipu and Kabir Hossain.
Judge Mohammad Nazrul Islam of the Special Judge Court-10 of Dhaka fixed February 1 to start trial of the case.
All three accused , now on bail, pleaded themselves not guilty and demanded justice to the court.
The judge dismissed the petitions submitted for discharging the accused from the charges in the case.
Pori Moni appeared in the court at 10:30 am (on Wednesday).
Rapid Action Battalion detained Pori Moni and Dipu on August 4 last year. The elite force seized alcohol and narcotics from Pori Moni’s house.
The following day, the two were shown arrested in the case filed with Banani Police Station. Later, Kabir was also shown arrested in the same case. On September 1, Pori Moni was released from jail on ad-interim bail, four weeks after her arrest.
On October 4, the Investigation Officer CID’s Police Inspector Kazi Golam Mostafa submitted the charge sheet of the case against the three accused to the court.
On October 13, the case was transferred to the Metropolitan Sessions’ Judge’s Court of Dhaka while the judge KM Imrul Kayesh accepted the charge sheet submitted by the investigators. Later, the court transferred the case to the Special Judge Court-10 of Dhaka for trial.
