The International Women’s Day was observed in different districts in a befitting manner yesterday. Local administration and various organizations observed the Day through colourful rallies and discussion meetings. Our correspondents and agencies report :
Staff Reporter from Rangpur says : The International Women’s day celebration was held at deputy Commissioner office under Rangpur Sador in Rangpur district on Sunday.
Deputy Commissioner office Rangpur and Women’s Department Rangpur, Community eye hospital & others NGOs organised the day celebration with the financial assistance of UKAID under sight savers “Right to health Project”. Md Asib Ahosan, Deputy Commissioner, Rangpur, deputy director of Women’s Department Rangpur, Kowser Pervin were also present.
Another report adds: The district administrations, Department of Women’s Affairs (DWA), Department of Social Services, Jatiya Mohila Sangstha, NGOs, educational institutions, human rights and women’s organisations celebrated the Day through colourful programmes.
Deputy Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan formally inaugurated the celebration with releasing balloons and pigeons on his office premises in the morning.
Later, dozens of colourful rallies were brought out on the city streets by different organisations with participation of thousands of women, men, girls, adolescents, students, officials and NGO activists followed by discussions and cultural functions.
Deputy Director (Local Government) Syed Farhad Hossain attended the main discussion held at Town Hall auditorium as the chief guest with Deputy Director of the DWA Mrs. Kawsar Pervin in the chair.
Freedom fighter Aklima Khondker, Civil Surgeon of Rangpur Dr. Hirombo Kumar Roy, Chairman of Rangpur unit of Jatiya Mahila Sangstha Rosy Rahman, women and human rights activists Monwar Begum, Mesbahun Nahar, Adv Shamima Akhter Shirin, women rights activist Priyanka Roy and journalist Aftab Hossain, addressed.
Highlighting tremendous success achieved by Bangladesh in empowering women in the last eleven years, the speakers stressed on changing the social mindset to establish gender parity for flourishing women leadership and ensuring their equal rights at all levels.
They called for engaging comprehensive efforts to bring an end to repression, torture and violence against women to ensure their equal emancipation in development, economy, politics, governance and every sector for attaining sustainably national development.
The chief guest said the government has taken steps to establish equal rights of women to realise the dream of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman through building a Sonar Bangla with equal participation of men and women.
Staff Reporter from Kishoreganj reports: Many organisations chalked out various programme, including rallies, discussion, seminar and cultural events focusing on equal rights for women to mark the International Women’s Day yesterday.
Kishoreganj District Administration including Women Affairs Department, District Police arranged a colourfull rally, discussion and cultural function marking the day.
A discussion meeting on Equlity, Realizing and Women Rights was held at local collectorate Conference Room .
DC Md. Sarwar Morshed Chowdhury and SP Mashrukur Rahman Khaled BPM (Bar) attended as chief and special guest while DWAO Md. Mamunur Rashid chaired the function.
It was addressed among others by ADC (General) Abdullah al Masud, Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Mustafizur Rahman, Jatiya Mohila Sangstha Chairman Mansura Zaman Nutun, CAB President Alam Sarowar Tito, District Press Club President Mostafa Kamal, District Mohila Awami League General Secretary Bilkis Begum, Mohila Porished District President Adv. Bangladesh Mohila Somity, Kishoreganj District Unit arranged a discussion meeting at its office with Unit President Adv Maya Bhowmik, in the chair.
It was addressed among others by Formar Bar President Advocate Dolon Bhowmik, District Press Club President Mostafa Kamal, CAB President Alam Sarowar Tito and District Mohila Awami League General Secretary Leader Bilkis Begum.

On this occasion, a colourful rally was brought out in the district town . Local elites, social workers and various women organisations took part in the rally.
 Additional Divisional Commissioner (Development) of Chattogram Md Nurul Alam Miaji led the rally.
 Acting DC Abdullah Al Mahmud Jaman, ADC General SM Jakaria, UNO Sadar Kanij Fatema and others took part in this rally which was organised by the Directorate of Women Affairs, Chandpur in collaboration with the District administration. .
Later, a discussion meeting highlighting the significance of the day was held at the DC’s Conference room with Acting DC Abdullah Al Mahmud Jaman in the chair.
Additional Divisional Commissioner (Development ) Nurul Alam Miaji was the chief guest while ADC general SM Jakaria, ADM Md Jamal Hossain, Additional Police Super Md Mizanur Rahman, Nari Muktijodhdha and Swadhinota Padak Winner Dr Syeda Badrunnahar Chowdhury, Dist AL General Secretary Freedom fighter Abu Nayeem Patwary Dulal, Zila Mohila Sangstha President Professor Masuda Khanam among others spoke with reference to the topic of this day.
BSS from Rajshahi, reports: Various government and non-government development organisations observed the International Women’s Day-2020 befittingly here yesterday with the unanimous call of freeing the womenfolk from all sorts of violence, disparity and discrimination.
“I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights” was the theme for International Women’s Day 2020.
Marking the day, district administration and Department of Women Affairs jointly organised a discussion at Human Resource Development Training Centre.
Advocate Adiba Anjum Mita, MP, and social worker Shaheen Akter Rainy addressed the meeting as chief and special guests respectively with Deputy Director of the Department of Local Government Division Parvej Raihan in the chair.
Deputy Director of Department of Women Affairs Shobnom Shirin and local unit chairman of Jatiya Mohila Sangstha Morjina Parveen also spoke.
The speakers laid emphasis on concerted efforts of all government and non-government entities concerned for establishing the rights of women in the society.
Lawmaker Adiba Anjum said more community participation is needed to build a
society free from child marriage as it’s a precondition to end violence against women.
She mentioned gender balance is the precondition to substantial and sustainable progress of the nation and it is very important to the development of national economy.
Besides, responsive support from the community, especially teachers, parents and leaders of influence has become a must for stopping child marriage.
Eradicating child marriage is imperative as the social menace hampers many
socio-economic developments in the country.
Highlighting their laudable contribution to the nation-building process, Adiba Anjum also called for acknowledging the domestic and farm women workers as labourers so that they could ensure their legitimate rights.
