The new committee of Jalalabad Association Dhaka, a platform of the people of Sylhet living in the capital city, has raised the demand that the name of Sylhet should be changed to ‘Jalalabad’.
President of the association CM Tofail Sami placed the proposal at the Eid reunion and orientation programme of the executive committee of the association. The chief guest of the function Finance Minister AMA Muhith supported it. “The demand is logical. I support it,” said the minister.
Held at the BIAM Auditorium in the city, General Secretary of the association Syed Jaglul Pasha delivered welcome speech while State Minister for Finance and Planning MA Mannan, former advisers to the caretaker government Dr MA Malik and Dr Jamilur Reza Chowdhury, former governor of Bangladesh Bank Dr Mohammad Farash Uddin, chairman of Palli Karmo Sohayok Foundation (PKSF) Dr Kazi Kholiquzzaman, national professor Dr Shahla Khatun, former president of the association Dr AKM Abdul Mobin addressed the function, among others.
AMA Muhith in the function also inaugurated several projects of the association that includes Jalalabad University and Educational Institution, launching of website of the association and woman development and training project. A cultural function followed.
