More than two crore people in Bangladesh are affected by Kidney diseases while five people are sustaining untimely death every hour being affected with this disease, speakers told a discussion meeting at the auditorium of Noakhali Zilla School.
Terming the Kidney disease as a harmful one they said the treatment of this disease is highly expensive and even five percent of people cannot afford it.
Kidney Awareness, Monitoring and Prevention Society (KAMPS), a voluntary organisation, dedicated in awareness raising for preventing Kidney disease and treatment, organized the discussion meeting jointly with ‘Jonaki Club’, a social welfare organisation in Noakhali to mark the Golden jubilee celebration of the Jonaki Club.
Principal of Noakhali Government University College, Prof Al-Helal Mohammad Moshrraf Hossain attended the seminar as chief guest while Chairman of KAMPS, Prof dr M A Samad presented keynote paper on the occasion.
Founder President of Jonaki Club, Omor Faruk presided over the seminar styled “Kidney disease is harmful: Way to prevent”.
Stressing upon increasing the treatment facility for the huge number of kidney patients of the country, speakers observed that awareness is the main thing for prevention of kidney disease.
“There are many people who have already caught kidney disease in the country but the existing opportunity of treatment is very insufficient”, speakers opined.
While addressing, the chief guest emphasized changing of lifestyle and to lead an ideal life to stay aloof from the risk of catching disease.
In his paper, Prof Samad mentioned the reasons of Kidney disease, menace of sudden kidney failure and its reasons elaborately.
Dr Samad mentioned Diabetes, High Pressure, Nephritis, obstruction in urinal tract, enlargement of prostate of elderly people, narrowing urinal track, unauthorized use of medicine, smoking etc. are the common causes of Kidney disease across the globe where in Bangladesh there have more reasons like Diarrhoea, Vomitting, bleeding during delivery, taking herbal or ‘kabiraji’ medicine, snake biting, unauthorized medicine use, adulterated food consumption.
He said among two crore Kidney patients in the country about 35 to 40, 000 of patients die every year due to kidney failure and 90 percent of them die due to lack of treatment.
Kidney Researcher Dr Samad also emphasized on seven separate issues in preventing Kidney disease like taking immediate step prevent dehydration caused by Diarrhoea and Vomotting, Preventing bleeding during delivery, having no medicine without Doctors prescription, taking modern treatment in case of snake or other insect biting, taking immediate treatment for urinal infection and drinking required quantity of fresh water.
There is around 80 lakhs of Diabetes patients and more than 1 crore high Blood Pressure (BP) patients and almost all of whom are under risk of having kidney failure, he added.
A team of expert physicians took part in the day-long free medical camp including Assistant Professor of Shahabuddin Medical College, Dr Syed Tanveer Ahmed, Dr Atahar Hossain and Dr Mihir Lal Devnath.
Nearly 2500 of patients visited the free-medical camp for the day long to receive treatment in various discipline including Kidney, Heart, Eye, Medicine etc.
