Staff Reporter :
A day after three minors were found dead in a room of Imam of a mosque of Chandpur district, police say that the children might have died of suffocation caused by possible chemical reaction originating from the batteries used for power backup.
Chandpur’s Superintendent of Police (SP) Zihadul Kabir told the reporters on Saturday that the batteries
 somehow had a chemical reaction.
“Level of hydrogen sulfide or carbon dioxide might have risen while oxygen level fell causing the boys to lay unconscious,” he said citing the Investigation report of Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
They might have died of suffocation, he said.
CID has been assigned to investigate the incident, according to him.
Meanwhile, the autopsy of the bodies has been conducted. Further forensic tests on the body organs would be done, according to the SP.
“The police official, however, ruled out the possibility of poisoning the boys. The bodies bore no sign of poisoning,” said SP Kabir.
Earlier, Separate Teams of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) and CID collected sample of crime scene from the spot, Police Headquarters sources said.
On Friday, three madrasa students aged 8 to 15 years were found dead in a room of the Imam of the East Kaladi Jame Mosque in Chandpur’s Matlab Dakshin Upazila, reports our Chadpur Correspondent quoting Police and locals.
According to the locals, after Jumma prayer when Imam Jamal Uddin wanted to enter his room adjacent to the mosque, he found it locked from inside.
After looking through the window, he found the three boys including his son lying on the bed unconscious. Police recovered the bodies by breaking the door of the room and took to the local health complex where doctors declared them dead.
