Central Zone batsmen were fighting desperately to avoid innings defeat against North Zone as they still need another 127 runs with only two wickets in hands when stumps were drawn on the third day of four-day Bangladesh Cricket League held on Tuesday at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
Earlier, on the day, North Zone resumed their first innings on the third day (Tuesday) at overnight score of 422 for 6 and finally were all out for 537, taking a massive 356 runs first innings lead.
Thanks to wicket keeper Dhiman Ghosh for his brilliant 113-run knock off 132 balls laced with 14 boundaries. He received an ample support from a cameo knock of Alauddin Babu who scored 54 runs off 67 balls that studded with four sixes and a boundary to take score beyond 500 marks.
Mosharraf Hossain was the pick of Central Zone bowler as he grabbed three wickets conceding 125 runs.
He was well supported by Sharifullah, Shahadat Hossain and Mohammad Sharif, who claimed two wickets each for 65, 11 and 125 runs respectively.
Trailing by 356 runs, Central Zone began their second innings on a difficult note. Alauddin Babu carried on his good work with the willow as he again shone with the leather for North Zone with a devastating spell of 4 wickets for 55 and Central likewise first innings were tottering at 229 for 8 at stumps.
Mohammad Sharif and Tanbir Haider were on the crease with 42 and 19 runs as the stumps were drawn for the day.
Alauddin Babu caused the major damage taking four Central Zone wickets giving away 55 runs while Naeem Islam, Farhad Reza, Yasin Arafat, and Sunzamul Islam shared one wicket apiece.
