Graduation from LDCs: Celebration is fake: Nagorik Oikya

Speakers at an event on Thursday said the government’s celebration of graduation from LDC to a developing country is fake adding that Bangladesh has to overcome two more steps finally for achieving it.
They said it while addressing a discussion titled ” Graduation to developing country and its upgradation to autocracy” organized by Nagorik Oikya at Reporters Unity in the city on Thursday afternoon.
“Development is an ongoing process; no government alone can claim the development has taken place under it. Without democracy and people’s right to expression there cannot be sustainable
development,” Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, former governor of Bangladesh Bank said.
The status of developing country is still far away from now, the country has to face many challenges to achieve it around 2024 said, he said.
Founder of Gonosasthokendro Dr. Jafarullah Chowdhury said, country’s makers of development are the farmers and workers who have worked hard to achieve it. Real reception has go to them.
“The discrimination under quota system is the opposite of our spirit of liberation War” he said.
Professor Dilara Chowdhury said, “The government is trying to distort our history in various ways, to claim credits. Without real history no nation can go ahead.”
She said, if there is no free and fair election, Bangladesh will fall into deep crisis.
Professor Asif Nazrul said, the status of developing country is fundamentally hypocratic and the celebration was very funny.
Nagorik Oikya’s Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna said, the status of developing country is completely wrong.
The ruling party is trying to arrange another January 5 type election showing a drama of fake development, he said.
Bipolobi Workers Party General Sectary Comrade Saiful Haque, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal General Sectary Abdul Malek Ratan, Former Ambassador Sirajul Islam and Gonosanghati Andolan Coordinator Junayed Saki, Dr Zahid, among others, spoke in the function.
